Perdana Botanical Garden – the green oasis of Kuala Lumpur

Perdana Botanical Garden – if you’re looking for an outdoor activity, you must definitely come here. This park is huge and located in the hearth of Kuala Lumpur.

You can get easily here by subway or bus. Situated near the National museum of Malaysia (Muzium Negara). Perdana Botanical Garden (Taman Tasik Perdana) is a home for many interesting trees, flowers and animals.

For exemple here you can see The Sterculia tree. This Sterculia tree is locally known as Kelumpang Jari. The fruits of this tree are bright in colour and that attract birds.

In addition, it tastes really good too. Do you know that we can identify edible fruits simply by looking at what wildlife eats?

Another interesting tree is The Bottle tree.

A Baobab tree stores a large volumes of water in its swollen trunk. Interesting fact: a Baobab tree can store up to 120,000 litre of water to endure harsh drought conditions in the savanna of Africa and India! Ironically, the Baobab you will see in this garden does not have its distinct swollen trunk. The wet condition in Malaysia makes it unnecessary for the Baobab tree to store water in its trunk!

If you’re visit Perdana Botanical Garden, don’t miss out the Rainbow Eucaliptus.

The skin layer that resembles the rainbow colours is derived from the aging skin of this tree and that changes from light green to dark green, and then bluish to purplish, and later pink – orange. Finally, the colour of the bark becomes right before the exfoliation process to occur.

And this process occurs at different rates and durations that it will finally produce bark with vibrant rainbow-like colours.

Here you will find a many spots for relax, for bird or squirrel watching. They are everywhere!

The lake is called Sidney lake and add to charm of this place.

In Perdana Botanical Garden you can see:

Cycad Garden, Sunken Garden, Orchid garden, Hibiscus garden, Heliconia Collection, Forest tree collection and many more. In the lake, you can see a different types of fish. The birds are everywhere.

The waterfalls, gardens and lake are all worth exploring. This is a family-friendly place – perfect for children with all these playgrounds.
